Trauma-Informed Therapist & Philosopher of Healing

I come from a working-class family from the rural Midwestern U.S and lived there until attending music school at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After years of pursuing a career as a professional guitarist and music teacher, I found my true calling in helping others through the practice of therapy and the study of psychology and philosophy. I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees at The University of Texas at Austin Steve Hicks School of Social Work while also pursuing interdisciplinary studies in social inequality, health, and policy.

I have worked as a therapist in many different settings including adult literacy and workforce development, community mental health with adolescents involved in the juvenile justice system, ketamine clinics, and group therapy practices. In my time outside of being a therapist, I love to practice Ashtanga Yoga, read, practice Zen meditation, learn Spanish, cook, be outdoors, spend time with my partner and friends, and pursue my own path to healing as a fellow trauma survivor and psychonaut.

FAQ

I value genuineness, transparency, humor, curiosity, and exploring the depths in my work with clients. I prioritize the development of a deeply human and collaborative relationship to facilitate emotional depth-work which honors our shared struggles and suffering as people sharing the space together. I approach this work not just as a therapist but as a fellow traveler on the path to healing from trauma and exploring the realms of inner space using spiritual practices and psychedelic and plant medicines.

I emphasize the development of virtues like courage, honesty, trust, surrender, and creativity as the crucial factors in healing and in psychedelic exploration. I approach this work as a guide, resource, compassionate questioner, and someone to stand with when we must have the courage to face the truth of our experiences and deepest parts of ourselves. I also work from a systems perspective and see many of our shared mental health struggles as the result of living in systems of oppression, marginalization, and exploitation. Political values and climate change are very welcome topics in my work with people.

Taking the leap into working with a therapist already demonstrates enormous courage. I strive to create a way of working that emphasizes working as a team walking on a path towards healing (whatever that means for each person). Clients can expect that over time, we will work to not just reduce symptoms but to heal the core wounds that those symptoms come from. We define goals collaboratively and many clients see greater access to joy and meaning in life, improved relationships with themselves and others, and more feelings of safety and trust in the world and themselves.

While I work with a very diverse array of clients from different races, genders, sexual orientations, disability statuses, and many other identities, my clients all share a desire to get to the root cause of their struggles in life with curiosity and courage. I also work with many clients who have not found enough depth or sufficiently challenged by other therapists. I believe that the best way for you to know if we are a good fit is to meet and feel the nature of what connection would feel like with me. I offer free 15 minute phone or Zoom consultations for all potential clients.

I typically work with adult clients of all ages, romantic partners, and some older teenage clients depending on appropriateness of fit together. I specialize in working with survivors of complex and developmental trauma. And I have a special passion for working with neurodivergent clients and people identified as gifted and talented at some point in their life.
I do not work with children or families at this time. I do provide some outpatient services to clients diagnosed with eating disorders or with schizophrenia spectrum disorders but require a consultation prior to beginning any therapeutic work and clients to be receiving in-depth support from other service providers.
